Full field announced for Minneapolis area Legends Classic

(Prior Lake, Minnesota – August 2, 2022) – The Land O’Lakes Legends Classic presented by The Meadows at Mystic Lake is set to welcome 40 Legends of the LPGA and four senior women amateurs on August 13-14 to the greater Minneapolis area for the second consecutive year.

Last year’s champion, LPGA and World Golf Hall of Famer Juli Inkster, will return to defend while a few familiar faces will tee off for the first time at The Meadows at Mystic Lake in Prior Lake, Minnesota. The Legends of the LPGA, which was founded in 2000, is the official senior tour of the LPGA, showcasing the talents of former LPGA Tour players aged 45 and older.

Amy Alcott, a World Golf and LPGA Hall of Fame member with 29 LPGA Tour wins and five major championship titles, is one of the newcomers to the event, along with World Golf Hall of Fame member and 16-time LPGA Tour champion Jan Stephenson.

LPGA Tour standouts Liselotte Neumann (13 LPGA wins), Danielle Ammaccapane (7 LPGA wins), Brandie Burton (5 LPGA wins), Maria Hjorth (5 LPGA wins), and Lorie Kane (4 LPGA wins) are also slated to make their first appearances in the Land O’Lakes Legends Classic.

Returning notables include Inkster and Hall of Famers Nancy Lopez and Hollis Stacy as well as LPGA Tour past champions Rosie Jones (13 LPGA wins), Christa Johnson (9 LPGA wins), Tammie Green (7 LPGA wins), Michelle McGann (7 LPGA wins), and Pat Hurst (6 LPGA wins).

Jones and Johnson finished a shot behind Inkster in last year’s Land O’Lakes Legends Classic at The Meadows for a T2 finish. McGann tied for 5th place in the 2021 staging.

“I enjoyed the layout of the course last year – and it was in fantastic shape,” said McGann. “I’m looking forward to seeing all the new friends I made last year. I’m so glad to be coming back to such a great venue.”

Minnesota natives Michele Redman and Lisa Grimes will also make their second appearances. Redman co-owns the event with Jim Lehman, president of Medalist Management and former president of the Minnesota Golf Association.

“I’m really excited about the field this year,” said Redman, a two-time LPGA Tour winner with four wins on the Legends of the LPGA. “I think it will be even more competitive than last year. I have been working on my game pretty hard to get ready, but I’m also just really looking forward to seeing everyone out here. It will be a great celebration of women’s golf.”

Combining for 215 wins on the LPGA Tour and 25 major championship titles, this year’s full field also features 13 past champions on the Legends of the LPGA, including five who lead the Legends circuit in wins carded: Rosie Jones (8), Juli Inkster (6), Michele Redman (4), Christa Johnson (4), and Lorie Kane (4).

Four area senior women amateurs who appeared in last year’s event have been invited to return to compete alongside the Legends during tournament rounds. Returning amateur golfers include Leigh Klasse of Cumberland, Wisconsin, Adele Peterson of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Claudia Pilot of Brainerd, Minnesota, and Brenda Williams of Hopkins, Minnesota.
