Nine Legends who’ve combined for 129 LPGA Tour wins set to appear at The Woodford Club

(Lexington, Kentucky – September 27, 2023) – Few things in life are free, but if you hurry, you can still take advantage of a free ticket to a priceless experience, especially if you’re a golfer in the Bluegrass region.

Nine Legends of the LPGA are slated to tee it up in The Woodford Legends Invitational premier event next week on Wednesday and Thursday, October 4-5 at The Woodford Club in Versailles, Ky. Three are World Golf Hall of Fame members while all nine have combined for 129 wins on the LPGA Tour, including 15 major championship titles.

Register now through Saturday, September 30 using this link for free admission. Tickets purchased on event days will be $5 per person at the gate. Event proceeds will support official charity partners United Way of the Bluegrass and KVC Kentucky.

The Woodford Legends Invitational line-up includes 16-time LPGA Tour champion Jan Stephenson of Sydney, Australia, a World Golf Hall of Fame member who counts the 1983 U.S. Women’s Open among her three major championship titles.

“I’m really looking forward to playing The Woodford Club, not to mention checking out the bourbon,” says Stephenson, who in recent years has developed her own line of signature wines and award-winning flavored rums. Winner of four events on the Legends of the LPGA, Stephenson is always working on her game. “I’ve been practicing, and I think I found something,” smiles Stephenson, reiterating an oft-used phrase amongst this close-knit band of legendary professionals.

LPGA & World Golf Hall of Fame member Pat Bradley of West Hyannisport, Mass., and World Golf Hall of Fame member Hollis Stacy of Holmes Beach, Fla. are also set to appear, along with 27-time LPGA Tour champion Jane Blalock of Cambridge, Mass.

“The nine of us coming to The Woodford Club are so thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase the personalities of the Legends of the LPGA,” says Blalock, who just picked up her 35th career win earlier this month at the BJ’s Charity Championship in Sandwich, Mass. “We hope to be coming back to Versailles for years to come.”

Next week’s premier event will serve as a springboard for a larger event returning to The Woodford Club June 6-8, 2024, that will feature 32 LPGA Legends competing in a two-day team challenge along with a pro-am.

The premier event’s schedule kicks off with a pro-am on Wednesday, October 4 at 1:30 p.m. followed by a cocktail mixer and dinner with the Legends. On Thursday, October 5, the LPGA Legends will provide a swing exhibition and Q&A session at 10:00 a.m. on The Woodford Club range followed by an 18-Hole Team Challenge Event that will start at 12:00 p.m. with three foursomes, each made up of three Legends and an area female amateur, competing in a scramble format as fans follow along the fairways.

The amateurs participating alongside the Legends in Thursday’s team challenge include Kentucky Women’s Senior Am Champion Susan Stewart and Kentucky Women’s Amateur Champion Alaina Schmitt, both of Louisville as well as Kentucky Golf Association Women’s Stroke Play Champion Taryn Durham-Walker of Prospect, Ky.

Rounding out the field of LPGA Legends in The Woodford Legends Invitational preview event are seasoned LPGA Tour stars Rosie Jones of Hilton Head, S.C.; Michelle McGann of North Palm Beach, Fla.; Pat Hurst of Danville, Calif.; Alicia Dibos of Old Greenwich, Conn.; and Charlotta Sörenstam of Stockholm, Sweden.
