Born on May 21, 1972, Smriti “Simi” Mehra holds the distinction of being the first Indian woman to join the prestigious LPGA Tour, the premier golf tour for women based in the United States. Revered as a trailblazer and cornerstone of women’s golf in India, Mehra was born in Kolkata and pursued her education at the University of Calcutta before embarking on her professional golf journey in 1994.
In 1996, Mehra secured a victory on the secondary Futures Tour, earning her a coveted promotion to the esteemed LPGA Tour. She competed on the LPGA Tour from 1997 to 1999 and then again from 2001 to 2004. Despite facing challenges such as shoulder surgery in 2005, Mehra’s determination led her to participate in the Futures Tour in 2006, with hopes of reclaiming her position at the pinnacle of professional golf.
