LPGA Legends set for premier event coming to Woodford County in Kentucky

(LEXINGTON, KY - September 5, 2023) – Select Legends of the LPGA are coming to The Woodford Club in Versailles, Ky. on October 4-5 for a premier event designed to pique interest in and garner support for a larger Legends team event in June 2024.

Among the nine former LPGA Tour standouts set to visit the Bluegrass region this fall are LPGA and World Golf Hall of Fame member Pat Bradley of West Hyannisport, Mass. and World Golf Hall of Fame members Hollis Stacy of Holmes Beach, Fla. and Jan Stephenson of Sydney, Australia. The three have combined for 65 wins on the LPGA Tour, including 13 major championship titles.

“Surrounded by world class bourbons and Triple Crown winners, The Woodford Club is excited to bring world class golfers to central Kentucky,” said Randy Clay, owner of the event’s host venue, The Woodford Club. “Since 1967 The Club has been the centerpiece of community and families in Woodford County. In bringing together this amazing group of legendary golfers this fall, we are able to shine a light on the value of families and the importance of women sports.”

The event will include a pro-am on Wednesday, October 4 at 1:30 p.m. followed by a cocktail mixer and dinner with the Legends. On Thursday, October 5, the LPGA Legends will provide a swing exhibition and Q&A session at 10:00 a.m. on The Woodford Club range followed by an 18-Hole Team Challenge Event that will start at 12:00 p.m. with three foursomes, each made up of three Legends and an area woman amateur, competing in a scramble format as fans follow alongside.

27-time LPGA Tour champion Jane Blalock looks forward to joining her Legends peers for this unique event and the prospect of showcasing even more Legends next summer. Up to 32 LPGA Legends are expected to participate in a team invitational planned for June 6-8, 2024.

“The LPGA Legends are thrilled about competing in this unique team event at The Woodford Club,” said Blalock. “The extraordinary camaraderie will be on full display throughout the 18-hole team challenge. Those who are fortunate to play alongside these phenomenal Legends in the pro-am will have an experience like no other and the opportunity to create lasting memories.”

Rounding out the field in The Woodford Legends Invitational preview event are LPGA Tour stars Rosie Jones of Hilton Head, S.C., holder of 13 LPGA Tour titles and 8 Legends of the LPGA wins; Michelle McGann of North Palm Beach, Fla., a 7-time winner on the LPGA Tour; Pat Hurst of Danville, Calif., the 2021 Solheim Cup Captain with six LPGA Tour wins and Alicia Dibos of Old Greenwich, Conn., a 10-year veteran of the LPGA Tour who has won twice on the Legends of the LPGA. Past LPGA Tour champion and Solheim Cup competitor Charlotta Sörenstam is also scheduled to appear.

Event proceeds will support official charity partners United Way of the Bluegrass and KVC Kentucky. United Way of the Bluegrass invests in local programs and organizations that support quality childcare, family support, early intervention, school readiness and student success for all youth. KVC Kentucky provides an array of mental and behavioral health, substance abuse and child welfare services that target problems families face.

“Healthy families are the backbone to a healthy society,” said Clay. “In addition to providing a family friendly event with the Legends of the LPGA, we have an opportunity to support the work of United Way of the Bluegrass, KVC and our other charity partners who address the growing challenges to healthy families. Golf events distribute more dollars to charities than all other sporting events combined.”
