Pairings, tee times announced for Friday's BJ's Charity Championship, an LPGA Legends team event

(Sandwich, Mass. – September 4, 2024) – The Legends of the LPGA are poised to appear on Cape Cod for the 7th staging of the BJ’s Charity Championship presented by Kimberly-Clark this Friday, September 6, and the field is jam-packed with some of the greatest names in the history of women’s golf, including six LPGA & World Golf Hall of Fame members: Amy Alcott, Pat Bradley, Laura Davies, Juli Inkster, Hollis Stacy and Jan Stephenson.

Playing in a unique team event format, 12 pairs of Legends will partner up and compete in an 18-hole, two-woman scramble at The Ridge Club in Sandwich, Mass.  Tee times start at 9:30 a.m.

Defending champions Jane Blalock and Patricia Meunier-Lebouc are looking forward to revisiting some of last year’s incredible moments, including their hot start of seven birdies in the first seven holes. The pair went on to finish 13 under par and edge the field by one shot for the win in 2023.

“We’ll be in the hunt,” says Blalock, who won 27 times on the LPGA Tour and made last year’s BJ’s Charity Championship her first Legends of the LPGA win.  “You never rest on your laurels, but I’m sure we’ll draw from last year’s positive memories while we are out on the course.”

Blalock and Meunier-Lebouc would be the first team in the history of the event to win back-to-back titles, but not the first to win more than once.  Minnesota’s Michele Redman, a two-time winner on the LPGA Tour, is the only player to have won the event twice with two different partners – Patti Rizzo in 2017 and Rosie Jones in 2019.  Redman returns to partner once again this year with Jones, who won 13 times on the LPGA Tour and has also carded eight wins on the Legends of the LPGA.

The teams of Michele Redman and Rosie Jones and Juli Inkster and Pat Hurst return to compete in Friday's BJ's Charity Championship at The Ridge Club.

“Rosie and I know each other’s games really well,” says Redman, a four-time champion on the Legends of the LPGA. “We always look forward to playing in the BJ’s Charity Championship, and we will definitely be ready to go for it again on Friday.”

Other past champions in the field include the teams of Trish Johnson and Laura Davies (2018), Jan Stephenson and Laura Diaz (2021) and Pat Bradley and Jamie Fischer (2022).

Newcomers include 2023 and 2024 Senior LPGA Championship winner Angela Stanford who will team up with Wendy Ward; Sweden’s Charlotta Sorenstam who will partner with Becky Morgan of South Wales; and U.S. Senior Women’s Open champion Leta Lindley whose teammate will be Suzy Whaley, an LPGA Tour competitor who later served as the first female president of the PGA of America.

“I don’t really feel any pressure around defending,” says Blalock, who never successfully defended one of her many titles but did win back-to-back events in a season while competing on the LPGA Tour in the 1970’s and 1980’s. “I feel more pressure because it’s my home course and I want to perform well,” adds Blalock, a long-time Ridge Club member who grew up in Portsmouth, N.H.

“And of course, it’s always nice to welcome my fellow LPGA Legends back to the Ridge,” smiles Blalock.

Jane Blalock looks forward to hearing the words "defending champion" with her partner Patricia Meunier-Lebouc on the first tee at the 2024 BJ's Charity Championship.

Gates open at 9:00 a.m. and admission is free.  There is no parking at The Ridge Club, but fans can park for free next door at Holly Ridge Golf Course where shuttles will be available to and from the main tournament entrance.  Tee times featuring six foursomes run from 9:30 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. on Hole 1.  Play is expected to finish at approximately 3:30 p.m.  A trophy ceremony will immediately follow play on the 18th green.
